Armor Your VR Machine Prepare yourself well to enjoy the impressive world of Virtual Reality. Before that, you have to make sure everything is qualified, including hardware, software and drivers. Motherboard is the key to connect every critical components and ASRock's VR Ready motherboards are definitely the one you're looking for. The premium qualify is assured by rigorous testing during development.
ASRock Super Alloy; Supports AMD AM4 Socket Ryzen Series CPUs (Summit. The ASRock RGB LED utility can be downloaded directly or from an all-in-one.
The sturdy components and rock-slid performance makes you completely immersive in the VR scenario. Users can be assured to experience VR enjoyments without any compatibility problems. Pros: Works with Ryzen 7 1700, 32 GB TeamDark 3200 memory and Samsung 960 Evo 500GB Cons: I was transferring some files and it struck me that the transfer speed was in the ballpark of 30 MB/s. So I connected a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB to an external USB-C enclosure and attached it to the USB-C port.
Speeds were significantly higher (488MB/s in CrystalDisk Mark), even though ASRock claims the USB-C and the USB-A are both 3.1 Gen 1 5Gbps. So I got a USB-C to USB-A 10Gbps cable and attached it to test all USB-A ports. The two USB-A ports next to the USB-C get close (400MB/s in CDM), but the other two, underneath the LAN port) top at 35MB/s.
So unless I got a lemon, test your speeds and don't always blame the drives for the slow transfers. Pros: -looks quite nice -great value for what you get/have for about 2 months -overclocked fine with my 1200 Cons: -ram was finicky but got working eventually -ruined my thought of the company by freezing up constantly after 2 months Other Thoughts: What happened with the board? It started out fine, no major issues and a nice bios screen. But then it started to freeze. At first I thought it was a bios issue so I updated it. Kept doing it.
I thought it was the power supply cutting out so I ordered a new PSU. Still freezes. I thought it was the GPU because it was the screen that was freezing, ordered a cheep one off of a certain site that people auction stuff off on, a 560. I thought it was a RAM issue so I used both sticks in every slot 1 at a time.
Speculated that it was the motherboard so I checked the NewEgg reviews and I was correct. After this I ordered a MSI Tomahawk and it has been serving me well for almost a year. I don't know if the issue has been solved. But I spent far too much time attempting to troubleshoot the issue. Pros: Sleek design fairly easy to maneuver around Well labeled Cons: Did not post, beep, or give monitor output Other Thoughts: I purchased a second one of these motherboards as it was cheaper than completely redesigning my build. This was a school project that never got completed in 2017 because of money constraints. With the new mobo, I now know that I also have to replace the G.Skill Flare X 2400 RAM I purchased around the same time, as I am now getting beep codes, but still no video output.
I read the reviews before purchase and thought that I would be alright despite the many who said it was DOA. IF you decide to purchase this mobo, make sure the BIOS version is up to date, as I suspect that may have been part of my problem. The original mobo had BIOS version 3.00, current mobo has version 4.5 (I think). Also, you can't flash the BIOS without getting to a post screen. There is no USB flash button that I can find anywhere on this mobo.
CMOS flashing ONLY works if you remove the button battery, short the CMOS pins, turn on the system in flash mode for 15 seconds, turn off, on for twenty seconds, turn off, and on again for about 25 seconds, turn the system off and then return the pins to their normal configuration and reinsert the battery (I would also suggest replacing said battery upon delivery: 2032).
